Family Learning in Worcestershire

Adult Learning

What's it about?

Where does it happen?

  • Usually in a child's school, nursery or Children's Centre
  • Other community venues such as libraries, countryside centres
  • At home

Family learning group

What happens on a Family Learning Programme?

  • Parents find out about games and activities to support their children's learning at home
  • Parents and children learn together
  • Parents and children learn to use ICT and the internet together
  • Parents can brush up on their own Literacy and Numeracy skills
  • Parents find out about the Literacy, Numeracy and Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and how they are taught in schools and nurseries.

Who is involved in Family Learning?

  • Parents or carers and their children
  • Other significant adults in a child's life
  • Practitioners from the child's school, pre-school setting or other organisations
  • Tutors from the local Further Education College.

Courses you can access for your centre or school

Courses usually run for a few hours each week.

Family Spanish - at Rubery Library
Pre-Schoolers with parent, grandparent or carer, Tuesdays 11.30 am - 12.30pm
Primary-Schoolers with parent, grandparent or carer, Tuesdays 4-5 pm
10 weeks, £37.50 (concessions may apply)

Keeping Up with the Children – 12 hour course for parents or carers of school age children, learning about the school's numeracy and literacy curriculum, and activities to do at home.ICTogether

ICT together – 20 hour course, parents learning to use a PC, joint time with parents and children learning to use the PC and other learning resources both as software and on the internet.

Keeping Up with the Children – 30 hour course for parents or carers of school age children, provides opportunities for parents to improve their literacy and numeracy skills, gain an understanding of what is expected in literacy and numeracy in school and how to support at home.

Family Numeracy – 45 hour course, as above.

Family Literacy – 72 hour course, provides Literacy and Numeracy teaching for parents, joint time with parents and children in their school or setting, and activities to do at home.
