Your County Council any time, any place,
anywhere
Worcestershire County Council has launched its
free Android app, which will offer residents quick and easy access
to council services, any time, any place, anywhere from their
mobile phone.
The launch of the phone app, which allows
residents to report issues such as pot holes direct to the council
from their mobile phone, follows the successful launch of the
iPhone app in September 2011, which has had over 1,900 downloads
already.
In addition to this, the council has submitted
to Apple an improved version of their iPhone app which has been
updated so that residents can send pictures in of potholes from
their mobile phone when they report a problem. So download your
update when you get the reminder. This facility is also available
on the Android app.
The apps will provide customers with access to
a range of services that reflect the most visited areas of the
County Council's website. Customers will be able to find out
information on schools; including term dates, search for favourite
books, CDs and DVDs in the county's libraries, check out local bus
and cycle routes and household recycling centres in the county.
It is also a useful way for residents to check
out school closures and any potential road closures or other
emergency alerts in the palm of their hand.
Cllr David Thain, Cabinet Member for
Transformation and Change said: "We are committed to
providing excellent customer services and we are keen to make
better use of technology to do this where it is possible.
"An increasing number of people are using
iPhones and other smart phones and it seems that for many, these
are becoming the preferred method of contact. As this is a very
cost effective way of accessing council services we want to
encourage as many people as possible to download the apps.”
