Legal Services
The Legal Services Unit provides a comprehensive,
effective, expert, and value for money legal service to all
Directorates of the Council and the Corporate decision making
process.
We provide legal advice and representation on behalf of the
Council and also to other public sector partners such as the West
Mercia Probation Service and some Parish Councils. We also
currently provide a legal service for other functions that WCC
performs in partnership with other agencies (eg the Youth Offending
Service, Supporting People Team).
Our in-house staff directly provide the greatest part of the
overall legal service, with the remainder provided through
additional assistance from external barristers and occasionally
agent solicitors in private practice.
The Unit cannot provide legal services or advice to members
of the public, as we can only act for the Council and other
approved public bodies.
We consistently receive excellent user survey ratings and are
accredited Investors in People.
