The Research and Intelligence Unit is involved in a variety of
work involving the collation and analysis of housing data both at a
county and regional level to support the evaluation and development
of policy and strategy. This section gives an overview of our work
and includes a variety of reports and data which you may find
Strategic Housing Market Assessment
A Strategic Housing Market Assessment
(SHMA) provides a strategic view of housing supply and
demand in all housing sectors up to 2030 and also provides Local
Authorities with a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics and
segments of the functional housing markets operating within
Worcestershire. Together with the Assessment, it forms part of the
evidence base informing emerging planning and housing policies and
strategies for those authorities bringing forward their Development
Plan Documents for examination.
Also included within this section is a previous assessment and
subsequent monitoring reports, as well as a Gypsy Traveller
and Accomodation Assessment, which was been produced to assess the
housing needs of gypsies and travellers.
South Worcestershire Housing Needs Assessment
A South Worcestershire Housing Needs
Assessment was commissioned by the three South
Worcestershire Districts, Malvern Hills, Worcester City and
Wychavon to assess the local housing needs to inform the South
Worcestershire Joint Core Strategy (SW JCS).
West Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy Annual Monitoring
The unit produces the annual housing supply monitoring report on
behalf of the West Midlands Local Government Association. This
report examines the progress of authorities across the region in
achieving targets set within national and regional planning
West Midlands Housing Market Summary
This West Midlands Housing Market Summary report is
a detailed analysis of housing supply based upon the West Midlands
Regional Residential Land Availability Survey, which contributes to
the substantive evidence base for the Communities for the Future
chapter of RSS Annual Monitoring Reports. It is also an assessment
of the key factors influencing housing demand including people’s
aspirations about where they want to live and the nature of housing
affordability across the Region.

level housing data, including up-to-date house prices and data
on housing type and tenure from the 2001 Census.
CLG Household Projections
The CLG household projections, which does not take into account
of housing strategies and uses a trend-based method to
calculate the number of future households, can be found
