National Concessionary Travel Scheme

Update: Do you have your Smartcard?

From October 1, 2008 English national concessionary pass holders can only travel free on production of their national Smartcard bus pass (pictured). Local district concessionary passes (pre-national scheme), and temporary concessionary bus passes issued to some Worcestershire residents following the introduction of the new national Concessionary Travel scheme on April 1 this year, will no longer be valid on any local bus service.

Those who have applied and not yet recevied their new Smartcard Concessionary Bus Pass should contact their local District Council (links below).

Smartcard Concessionary Bus Pass

National Concessionary Travel Scheme

From 1st April 2008 if you're 60 or over, or are an eligible disabled person and live in England, your bus pass is changing. The new pass will allow you to enjoy free off-peak travel on local buses anywhere in England.

What is the new National Bus Concession?

From 1st April 2008, the new National Bus Concession will enable eligible users to travel free on off-peak local bus services anywhere in England. However as an enhancement to the statutory concession Worcestershire pass holders are entitled to travel at any time on local bus journeys starting in Worcestershire. For journeys starting outside Worcestershire the national scheme entitles passholders to travel free on off-peak journeys only. Your local District Council may offer additional enhancements, please contact them for further details.

When exactly is off-peak travel?

Off peak hours are 9.30am untill 11pm Monday to Friday, and all day weekends and bank holidays.
