Resource Centres for Older People

Keeping in Touch
Line break

Visitors are welcome at any time and will always be offered a drink. They can have a meal with you for a small charge. You can see your visitors in your own room or in one of the lounges.

There are public telephones or arrangements can be made for more private telephone calls.

Post is delivered daily and newspapers can be ordered. There is a supply of books including a selection in large print. We have access to 'talking books and newspapers'. Interpreting services for people who do not speak English and for people who are deaf or hard of hearing are available.

There are televisions and radios in the lounges, as well as facilities for playing music. You can bring your own electrical items but they must be electrically tested at the unit first, this is free

Arrangements can also be made to help you to follow your religious or cultural beliefs, within and outside the centre.

Meals
Line break

We aim to offer enjoyable meals using fresh produce. If you are on a special diet we will make it possible for you to keep to it.

You can be involved in helping the cooks to plan our regularly changing menus. We are usually able to supply any special requests, and there will always be a choice for every meal.

Although there are set mealtimes you can alter the time you eat for any reason. Meals are usually served in the dining room, although if you prefer you may choose to have meals in your own room.

Drinks are provided between meals, and you can ask for drinks and snacks or make your own at any time.

Staff
Line break

Our staff offer the highest standards of care in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. We aim to help you to be as independent as you wish, but staff are always available.

All the people who work in the centres try to make sure that your needs are being met, and one particular member of staff will have 'special responsibility' for this.

Staff training is given a high priority. All staff are given training from the very start, including a wide range of Health and Safety training. Worcestershire Adult and Community Services Department aims to achieve NVQ level 2/3 for all care staff.

Health Care
Line break

We will discuss your health care needs with you before you use any of our services. All the services are provided in a relaxed, homely setting. If you and your doctor agree to continue your medical care, we would wish this to happen, but if this is not possible, we can help you to find a temporary doctor.

You may choose to look after your own medication and keep this locked up in your room, or you may prefer to be assisted by staff who will administer your medication for you.

Visits to or by Physiotherapists, Dentists, Opticians, Chiropodists, District Nurses, Social Workers ete. can all be arranged as necessary, and we will provide any help which you may need in making these arrangements.

Hairdressers visit the centres regularly and we can arrange for you to visit hairdressers and barbers if required.

Social Activities
Line break

Regular activities are arranged and include for example quizzes, music sessions, exercises, bingo, knitting, sewing and cooking.

You will be welcome to join in any of the activities offered but there is no pressure to do so.

Our first aim is to ensure your independence, dignity and comfort, and we hope that you will enjoy your stay with us.
