The purpose of this activity: is to examine safety issues in school grounds and see how by appropriate design and construction of features, risks can be managed. We live in a risk averse society but in our school grounds we can enable pupils to be risk aware, develop and take responsibility for their own safety and that of others. Through design we can create safe but adventurous and exciting school grounds. We will consider safety of ponds, trees, logs, fixed play and climbing equipment safety inspections, what constitutes adequate supervision, the schools responsibilities towards contractors, out of school use, unauthorised visitors.
