WHEAS IconWorcestershire Tithe and Inclosure Map Project

Welcome to the Worcestershire on-line Tithe and Inclosure project.

This project provides on-line access to digitised 18th and 19th century maps in the county, together with their attached documentary evidence.  Together, these transform flat maps into a powerful searchable research tool.

Only a part of the capabilities of the system can be demonstrated on-line. The full system, showing tithe and inclosure maps with all the information held on the Historic Environment Record, is available at the offices of the Historic Environment and Archaeology Service.

This site is continually being developed and new maps added.  The links below give access to an internet mapping system for viewing modern and historic maps, and to information about why the original maps were created.  The Badsey GIS links to a separate site containing further historical information about the parishes of Badsey and Aldington.

The link to the quesionnaire allows you to give us your feedback on how easy, or otherwise, you found the site to use.  Please use it!  Your comments help us to develop this site.

A broadband connection is recommended in order to speed the downloading of the maps.  Worcestershire Libraries provide free access to broadband computers.

The original maps may be inspected in the searchroom of the County Hall branch of Worcestershire Record Office.
Digital photographic copies of the maps on CD are also available in both the Worcestershire Records Office and the Worcestershire History Centre searchroom.

Your parish not yet digitised?  We rely on external funding to undertake this work.  If you belong to a local history / archaeology / community group then we may be able to assist your organisation to apply for a grant to allow this work to continue.  Contact Victoria Bryant for details
