Introduction by Catherine Driscoll, Chair of the Race and Religion Sub Group

I am delighted to be the chair of the Corporate Race and Religion sub group. This group has made good progress, has changed service delivery in many areas and has continued its outreach work to Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities across Worcestershire. We have also worked hard with BME staff to consider action that needs to be taken such as supporting  the Black Colleagues Group and introducing a Black Colleagues Mentoring Scheme. We must also ensure that as new communities move into Worcestershire that the Council responds appropriately to their needs. If you would like to discuss the role of the Race and Religion group or raise any issues with me, please contact me or Rukhsana Koser, the Corporate Diversity Manager.

Race Equality Schemes

Worcestershire County Council current Race Equality Scheme is for 2005-2008.  The Scheme builds on the progress of the previous scheme for 2002-2005 and the feedback of our Race Equality Consultation Evening(2005). The Scheme describes the steps the Council will take to make Race Equality central to the way we work by putting it at the centre of policy, service delivery and employment practice.  During the life of this Scheme we will concentrate on improving the quality of life for our black and minority ethnic communities. In the near future this scheme will be replaced by a Single Equality Scheme which will encorporate all the strands (Age, Disability, Gender, Race, Religion/Belief and Sexual Orientation).
