How to get involved in Scrutiny

Suggest an issue for scrutiny

Is there anything you would like councillors to investigate?

The Scrutiny Steering Group welcomes suggestions for scrutiny from any members of the public, interest groups or businesses.

Suggestion for scrutinies must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Is the issue a priority area for the Council?
  • Is it a key issue for local people?
  • Will it be praticable to implement the outcomes of the scrutiny?
  • Are improvements for local people likely?
  • Does it examine a poor performing services?
  • Will it result in improvements to the way the Council operates?
  • Is it relevant to new Government guidance or legislation?

Attend scrutiny task group meetings

By attending scrutiny meetings you can follow the progress of scrutinies in person. Meetings usually take place at County Hall in Worcester. All forthcoming meetings can be viewed via this link..

Scrutiny meetings are usually open to the public and you are very welcome to come along.  However, if councillors need to discuss confidential information regarding an item on the agenda, the press and members of the public will be asked to leave the room during the discussion

Advise a scrutiny task group

If you have a keen interest or knowledge of an issue you could provide advice to, or even be co-opted on to, a scrutiny task group.

Co-optees can represent the views of particular groups or communities during a particular scrutiny.

You can also bring an external “expert” view. This can be very helpful to give an independent perspective.

If you would like to become more involved in a scrutiny, please contact Suzanne O’Leary.Overview & Scrutiny Manager
