Since 2001 there has been a new system in place for decision making in the County Council.
Councillors in the Cabinet make decisions on local issues. Other councillors scrutinise the work of the County Council, and suggest improvements where necessary.
Scrutiny is also a way of involving local people, communities and organisations to ensure that their views are used to improve council services whenever possible.
Worcestershire County Council has established an Overview and Scrutiny Steering Committee (OSSC) to undertake this work.
The OSSC establishes time limited Scrutiny Task Groups to conduct in depth reviews. For a list of current scrutinies, go to the Scrutiny Task Groups page.
There is also a Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee that has the power to scrutinise local heath services.
Please follow the links on the left for more information.
The Overview and Scrutiny Committees of the seven local authorities across Worcestershire have agreed to carry out a joint scrutiny of the summer 2007 floods.
Details of the Scrutiny can on be found via this link
Information about the work undertaken by Scrutiny in the past year can be found
