Support After Adoption

We can offer you help and advice if you live in Worcestershire and if:

  • You are adopted and over 18 years old
  • You have adopted a child
  • You are an adopted child/young person under 18 years old
  • You are a birth parent or birth relative of someone who was adopted.

If you are adopted, we can:

  • help you to get information from your adoption records
  • give you advice about tracing birth family members
  • help you to meet other adopted people
  • act as a link between you and your birth family
  • give you advice and support before or after a reunion.

If you have adopted a child, we can:

  • help you with support and advice as your child grows up
  • advise you on contact with your child's birth relatives
  • help you to meet other adoptive parents
  • help you to talk to your child about tracing birth family members
  • undertake an assessment of your support needs
  • offer you workshops and training on topics of interest
  • send you our regular newsletter ‘Adoption Matters’
  • help to put you in touch with other services which may help you

If you are an adopted child/young person under 18, we can:

  • offer you support and advice on adoption issues

If you are a birth parent or birth relative, we can:

  • give you advice about contact with your child
  • give you confidential help and advice to cope with your loss
  • give you advice if your child has traced you
  • help you to get information on a brother or sister who was adopted
  • give you advice and support before or after a reunion.

If you do not live in the Worcestershire area, you can ring your local council Social Services and ask to speak to their Adoption Support Services Adviser, who can give you information about similar services in your area.
