SCROLL - our Register of Children with Disabilities
The Children Act 1989 requires all Local Authorities to keep a register of children with a disability living in their area. In response to this, the County Council’s Children’s Services department has developed SCROLL (Special Children’s Roll), a children’s disability network which records information about the needs of children with disabilities living in Worcestershire. Inclusion on the register is voluntary and there is no assessment or need to prove the nature or extent of a child’s disability in order to be included.
If you are interested in jointing SCROLL please call the Family Information Service on 01905 790560.

There are now 285 members of SCROLL, some of whom have subsequently formed a Parents and Carers Group. The group held its first meeting on 3rd March 2006 which was attended by 26 parents, who agreed to meet quarterly. During this meeting a smaller core group of 11 members was elected who will meet more regularly to represent members’ views and take forward issues raised by the larger group.
Pictured are core group members Rachel Pinnell, Rachel Officer, Andy Davis, Nigel Whittle, Angela Hands and Deana Millward with Julie Marriott, Chief Executive of the Parent & Carer Council for Leicestershire, who was guest speaker at the last meeting. Carer Development Officer for Children With Disabilities, Deana Millward who is helping to establish the group said “The enthusiasm of the Parents and Carers Group is fantastic. Now we need to keep the momentum going, continually work to attract more members and start to really make a difference to the way services are planned locally. The group is already starting to form strong links with Children’s Services and will be responding to the draft Worcestershire Children and Young People’s Plan”
