Chances and Choices in Worcestershire
Day
Opportunities for Adults with Learning Disabilities
What
are
Chances and Choices

They
are:-
One of a number of ways of supporting people with learning disabilities
to:
- Have more control in their lives
- Continue to
develop skills
- Do things that they enjoy
- Meet friends

are Chances and Choices for?

people to do some of the things which are important to them
- Help people to do things
in their local area and other places
- Help others to welcome and accept people with
learning disabilities
- Work together with people with learning disabilities and carers
to provide a good quality service across the county
- Give families a break
Where
should Chances and Choices be?
- Near to where you live
- Sharing
with other people who do not have disabilities

- Learning
disability services

- Lots of others
What Chances and
Choices cannot do:
- We cannot give people paid work
- We
cannot provide transport for everyone
- We cannot provide holidays
- We
cannot provide a five day a week service for everyone
- We cannot treat everyone the
same. This is because some people will need more help than others.
Other
people can help with things like:
- Finding paid or unpaid work
- Training
for work
- Learning new skills
- Finding money to pay for support
such as Direct payments or the Independent Living Fund
- Travel
- Holidays
What
we want to do more of:
- Listen to people with learning disabilities
and help them to do what is important to them
- Help people with learning disabilities
to have more choices
- Help people to keep friends and make more
- Be
flexible – provide support during the evenings and weekends
- Listen to family carers
and officer support
- Move away from supporting people in large buildings
- Work
with others who offer support
- Support people to do things out and about
- Respect
and support people’s religious and cultural needs
