Worcestershire's roads are becoming more congested with car traffic. Aswell as being frustrating, congestion is damaging to both our environment and our economy. Transport (personal and freight) accounts for 35% of total UK carbon emissions. Over-dependence on travel by car also leads to problems such as increased air pollution, reduced levels of physical exercise and a decline in local shops. Petrol and diesel are fossil fuels- burning them releases gases such as carbon dioxide, responsible for climate change.
Worcestershire's Local Transport Plan sets out how the council aims to work with partner organisations to provide a more integrated, environmentally concious transport system.
The Employer Travel Plan Co-ordinator helps employers develop their own Travel Plans to reduce dependency on the car for work.
The School Travel Plan Co-ordinator works with schools to reduce the number of car journeys made by staff, parents and teachers through initiatives such as Safer Routes to School.
The Choose How You Move team promote walking, cycling, passenger transport and car sharing in Worcester, working with local employers, schools and residents.
The Road Safety Team work to make travel in the County safer for all, to reduce the number of accidents through training and awareness.
