Task force tackles economic issues
The Worcestershire 'Economy Watch' Task Force agreed its priorities for helping people and businesses through the recession at its second meeting on March 25.
The group of council chiefs, business representatives and community groups is targeting quick invoice payments, support for credit unions, improved access to information and encouragements to 'buy local' as key actions among a series of measures to help the local economy.
Members of the task force have all agreed to work together to tackle the economic issues facing the county as a result of the global downturn.
A number of initiatives have already taken place, such as a meeting of local town centre managers where the best ways of working were shared, and a gathering of local banks, where methods of passing benefits on to customers were discussed.
Trish Haines, Chair of the Worcestershire Economy Watch Task Force and Chief Executive of Worcestershire County Council, said: "The task force is taking a positive approach to supporting the local economy by exploring the ways that all members can help. We're looking at issues that range from access to information and sources of advice to practical help such as quick payment of bills and small business rate relief, where possible. Our goal is to keep the local economy secure during these difficult times so we remain in a strong position for growth when conditions improve."
