Traditional Orchard Project 06.03.07

The People's Trust for Endangered Species have chosen Worcestershire as one of the counties to take part in a project to map our traditional orchards, important for a huge number of wildlife species from beetles to birds.  PTES are looking for local volunteers willing to help with the survey, which involves filling in a simple form to record the current condition of the orchards near you.  A survey pack available from PTES gives full details of the project and all the help you will need to assist with the conservation of this nationally important habitat.  For more details cantact Anita Burrough, Orchard Project Officer, on 0207 498 4533 or anita@ptes.org.

Breathing Places 06.07.06

The BBC have recently announced the start of their 3-year Breathing Places campaign - to involve 1 million people in helping to create and manage 50,000 open green spaces across the UK.  The BBC have secured £5 million from the Big Lottery Fund, available to community groups, schools, parish and town councils, to transform areas of land into havens for wildlife and people.  Worcestershire Wildlife Trust is working in partnership with the BBC to help promote Breathing Places within Worcestershire and to help groups apply for the grants.  For more details contact Sara McGourty on 01905 754919 or sara@worcestershirewildlifetrust.org.  The current round of funding has now closed but see www.bbc.co.uk/breathingplaces for details of how you can get involved in the campaign.
