The site here consists of about 40 acres of ancient semi-natural broadleaf woodland (Bishops Wood).
Within it are areas of Sweet Chestnut and Hazel Coppice that are slowly being brought back into sustainable management.
The remaining 30 acre area of the site is a new tree planting scheme (Mitre Oak Wood), with 17,000 native broad-leaved trees and shrubs having been planted.

The material from the coppice is used for the education programmes at the centre, construction projects on the site and in school grounds. The remainder is turned into barbecue charcoal. |

There is also a large stand of mature oak, small woodland ponds, and in the spring it is a beautiful bluebell wood. |

There are also demonstration willow sculptures, one of which is a life-size Viking Long Ship. Many other projects have been developed in this area, including a Saxon Hall, Straw bale building, camp site, energy trail and healthy garden. |

There are many sculptures throughout Bishops Wood, some made by our own staff and some as a result of education projects. |
