Curriculum Outreach

School Energy Programmes

Bishops Wood runs two hour sessions, or to fit with the school timetable, on energy conservation and issues around renewable and non-renewable energy.

Energy at Watt Cost

This is aimed at Key Stage 3 and involves the students investigating the pros and cons of renewables and non-renewables. Using websites and information from Bishops Wood along with a number of props, the students engage in a 'share' debate looking at what sort of energy the school should be investing in.

Energy Matters

This is aimed at Key Stages 2 and 3 and involves a visit from Commander Energy who demonstrates, with the help of the Power Dragon the 'state of play' of renewable and non-renewable energies, particularly regarding CO2 production. The students end up looking at ways to conserve energy in the home. This is followed through with an excellent resource from the Centre for Sustainable Energy that encourages the students to do a home energy survey which is analysed in the classroom with extension activities. The students then take home recommendations for energy conservation at home.

Other Curriculum Areas

Connect your curriculum to your outside classroom using tailor-made or existing programmes devised at Bishops Wood. This service has been set up to cater for schools unable to visit Bishops Wood themselves or unable to meet rising coach costs.

Bob Green can come into your school to work with staff and students in many areas e.g. science, biodiversity, art and history. The day(s) would allow onsite training of staff and working with groups. Any props or materials for a specific school would be left to allow staff to continue projects themselves in future years.

If your school requires this service, please email John Rhymer. Time allocation may be limited though due to high demands for this service and other work on school grounds.
