Wyre Forest Schools Review Masthead

Children & Young People 9-13

Where will you be going to school in September 2008?

Most of the schools in Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley will have changed in September 2007 from a three tier system to a two tier system.. Insead of first and middle schools, there are now new primaries for children from age 4 to 11 and new secondary schools from age 11 to 18.

How will this affect me?

If you’re at a middle school at the moment, mostly you won’t notice any changes for the next year. The main thing you will notice is that there won’t be as many pupils in your school this year because you won’t have had any new year 5s joining the middle school.

If you’re in year 9 this year you will leave and go to High School as normal. When you’re in year 10, however, your High School will change to become a secondary school with pupils from age 11.

If you’re in year 8 this year, you will leave at the end of year 8 as normal BUT the new school that you start at in year 9 will NOT be a High School with pupils from 13-18. Instead it will be a new secondary school with pupils from age 11. So you’re not going to be the youngest in the school because the rest of the pupils in the middle schools will also be joining the new school.

If you’re in year 5 or 6 this year, you’re going to be leaving your middle school in two years time in July 2006 and moving to the new secondary schools which will take pupils aged from 11.

Do you want to know more?

You can find out more about the new schools by choosing the school you’re interested in from the drop down menu above.Or if you have a particular question, you can email us with your name and current school and we will put your question and the answer on this website (please let us know if you don’t want us to put your name on the website)

Your questions...

Question:

Why are you making all of these changes because it’s fine as it is?

Lauren Emma Bourne, Windmill Middle School

Answer:

We need to change the schools in Wyre Forest because the number of young people in Bewdley, Stourport and Kidderminster is falling. This means that there are too many schools for the number of pupils. This costs money because you still have to pay for the staff, heating and up keep of all these schools even when they are not full. This reduces the amount of money that can be spent on other parts of your education like the equipment you use and, in the future, schools might not be able to afford to have all the specialist facilities and teachers that you have now.

Many of the school buildings in the area also need lots of money spent on them, so we’re going to be spending £160 million to improve the school buildings over the next few years.

Do you have any ideas how we can develop this website?

The aim of this website is to make sure that you know what’s happening to the schools in Bewdley, Kidderminster and Stourport. We’ve started by including some basic information but we need your help if we’re going to make sure that we tell you what you want to know in a way that you find easy to read and understand. If you have any ideas on how we can develop this website, we want to hear from you. So why not email us now with your suggestions and ideas?
