New Primary and Secondary Schools in Wyre Forest - Information for TGB

Steps to take prior to the opening of the new school in September 2007

TGB draws up the Instrument of Government for the Permanent Governing Body

Choose the size in accordance with the constitution regulations (available from Governor Services if required)

• Send the draft instrument to Governor Services for approval
• Include the name of the school. This should be approved by the Local Authority and DBE (if applicable) first.

During the Autumn Term 2007

The permanent governing body is set up ready to take over from the TGB

• Local Authority Governors - appointed by Graham Warren as Head of Governor Services.
• Foundation Governors (VC schools) – appointed by the school’s founding body.or church as named in the Instrument.
• Staff Governors – The Headteacher is automatically one of the Staff Governors. The Headteacher organises the election of the other staff governors. A guidance document is available from Governor Services if required.
• Parent Governors – The school is responsible for requesting nominations and holding elections. A guidance document is available from Governor Services if required.
• Community Governors are appointed by the permanent governing body after the Incorporation Meeting.

The Incorporation Meeting

This meeting is the official hand-over of responsibility of the school from the TGB to the permanent Governing Body.

• The LA is responsible for organising this meeting.
• Governor Services will contact the Headteacher and Chair of the TGB by phone to agree a date and confirm this in writing.
• There is no automatic move from being a member of the TGB to becoming a member of the permanent governing body, but it is possible to be members of both bodies.
• All members of the TGB should attend the meeting along with those governors elected or appointed to the Permanent Governing Body as detailed above. (LA appointed governors, elected staff and parent governors)
• The Chair of the TGB will be asked to report on the work of the TGB and include any issues which the permanent Governing Body may wish to address.

Members of the TGB who are not also members of the Permanent Governing Body will leave the meeting after the official hand-over of power has been completed

Building Implementation Programme

As you will be aware colleagues within the Children's Services Directorate and Property Services have been working on proposals for the implementation of the building programme to support the Wyre Forest Schools Review.  From this plan you will be able to see in which financial year it is proposed to commence the programme at your school.  These proposals will be subject to review and subsequent approval by the Wyre Forest Project Board at their meeting on 27 April 2006.  Further information is detailed in the letter  (105.50 KB) sent by Geoff Roberts on 31 March 2006 to Headteacher Designates along with the Proposed Building Implementation Programme  (34.00 KB)
