Fire

The Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service is a key responder to major emergencies within Worcestershire. They have a variety of functions in addition to fighting fires.

Their primary concern is to rescue people trapped in wreckage and to prevent further escalation of an emergency by tackling fires, pumping out floodwater, and dealing with released chemicals and other hazards.

At the scene of an incident they are responsible for establishing and controlling entry to the immediate hazard area (inner cordon), until all the injured have been released and the scene is declared safe.

If the emergency is terrorist inspired and terrorism remains a threat to the responding agencies, responsibility over the immediate scene rests with the Police Service.
