The Chaddesley Corbett Roman Coin Hoard

A hoard of 420 bronze Roman coins (mainly those known as Folles) was found in 1999 at Chaddesley Corbett near Kidderminster, Worcestershire and acquired by Worcestershire County Museum in 2001. The hoard was discovered together with 38 heavily abraded fragments of the Severn Valley Ware container in which it had been concealed. The coins date from the Emperor Carus (AD 282-283) to the Emperor Constantine the Great (AD 306-337) the latest being AD 318 It is likely they were concealed in the 320s for reasons unknown - possibly a hedge against inflation or for safe-keeping during times of unrest or before a journey.
