Queen Elizabeth arrived at Hartlebury on 12th August 1575 after her 'progress' had left Kenilworth Castle and called at Lichfield, Chartley Castle, Stafford Castle and Chillington at Wolverhampton. The following day the Queen moved on to Worcester, where she dined at Hindlip and hunted at Hallow.
The walk that Bullingham had made for the visit still exists in the Bishop of Worcester's private garden to the east of the chapel.
Bishop Bullingham died less than a year later and in a communication to the Queen his widow begs her to delay the collection of various debts due to the Crown. The document reads 'consider the lamentable estate of his [the bishop's] poor wife and children......God move the Queen's Majesty's heart [for]...we are without all comfort and means to live' It is not known if the Queen's heart was moved or not
