Education Packs
The Education Packs produced by Worcestershire Record Office contain copies of original
documents carefully selected to provide an introduction to the history of an area (Parish Packs) or
on a specific theme (Education Packs). The Learning Group is currently in the process
of updating the Parish Packs to ensure that they all contain high-quality scanned images, transcriptions
and explanatory notes and to make them available on CDROM. The Education Packs will also be updated
in due course but are currently only available for purchase in older format and may not contain explanatory
notes, be fully transcribed and images may be photocopies rather than scans.
Parish Packs
Parish Packs provide an excellent introduction to the history of an area and can be used to demonstrate how the area has changed over time. Each pack contains maps, extracts from parish registers and trade directories, photographs, census material and other relevant documents relating to the local area. They also contain teaching aids such as explanatory notes, transcriptions and sample questions. It is our aim that all Parish Packs will:
- demonstrate change and continuity in the local area
- provide information about the way of life of people in the past who lived in the local area
- provide material relating to specific themes concerning changes in the local area, such as population movement, housing, changes in land use, religious practices, treatment of the poor, law and order and education, where available
- demonstrate how information about the past can be found in a wide range of sources

Education Packs
Education Packs focus on specific themes within a local context and contain a wide variety of documents such as maps and plans, photographs, letters, diary extracts, accounts, advertisements, posters and newspaper reports.

Accessing the Packs
Education and Parish Packs are available for reference use in the searchrooms of both branches of the Worcestershire Record Office. They are also available to purchase. Packs in hard copy cost £20 plus £3.50 postage and packing. Packs on CDROM cost £16 and have free postage and packing. To order, please call (01905) 766352 or email the Learning Group.
