The fourth son of Louis-Philippe, the last King of France, came to live there in 1857, and members of the family lived there until 1912. Wood Norton Hall became the venue for the marriage of Prince Charles of Bourbon to Princess Louise of Orleans in 1907.

In 1877 the 29th and 36th (Herefordshire) Regiments, which became the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the Worcestershire Regiment, established their depots at Norton Barracks.
