Healthy living is vital for future health and well being. Promotion of a healthier lifestyle by eating healthily and taking exercise can help us all to live more sustainably.
A good diet is important for good health. A healthy and varied diet can help to maintain a healthy body weight, enhance general well being and reduce the risk of a number of diseases including heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
TIPS
- Exercise regularly, 30 minutes a day of moderate physical exercise 5 days a week, for example by cycling or brisk walking.
- Eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables every day - they are a good source of vitamins and fibre. For advice on where to buy fresh, local and organic produce, see the Food and Drink pages.
- Get on your bike! Take advantage of local cycle routes to get around and become fit at the same time.
- Give up smoking! It is probably the greatest single step you can take to improve your health and you will reduce your risk of smoking related diseases and save money.
- Take part in group activities- great ways of socialising and staying fit include activities such as water aerobics, keep fit or pilates at sports and leisure centres or takihng part in outdoor, practical conservation work.
